Dying for It by Moira Buffini
Directed by David Bond.
“Nowadays only the dead may say what the living think.”
It’s the 1920’s in The Soviet Union under the rule of Joseph Stalin. Seymon is a poor, unemployed, downtrodden man living in the corridor of an urban slum. But not for much longer, as he has decided to end his own life. As the news of Seymons’ decision to do away with his pitiful existence spreads, he quickly becomes the focus of many a comrade who each try to persuade him to die in the name of their worthy cause. Moiri Buffini’s fast, funny but faithful adaptation of Russian classic, The Suicide, throws a careless match into a box of fireworks.
